Every Tuesday at 7 p.m., prayer warriors and prayer seekers gather on a citywide conference call to collectively petition the throne of God. It’s part of the weekly prayer call led by the Rev. Fred McClure, pastor of Christ’s Church at Birmingham in Fairfield.
“The most important ministry is prayer,” he says. “We need to bathe everything in prayer.”
One of his church members wanted to come up with a way to get all the fellow members across the city together to pray during the week. They heard about the free conference call service and thought that would be a good solution. Now, those wanting prayer need only call the designated phone number and they will be on the line with McClure and many other people who love to pray.
Pastor McClure and his members have been doing the prayer call for almost a year, he says, with the number of callers ranging from a handful to nearly 40 at a time. It is open to anyone who needs prayer and callers have even included people from other states.
The call usually begins with Pastor McClure giving an introduction and a scripture. He then asks for prayer requests and leads off the prayer.
